Teresa A. Weinger

Teresa Weinger was born in La Paz, Bolivia on January 22, 1932. She departed this life on May 5, 2024 in Chantilly, Va. at the age of 92 years. Teresa came to the United States in 1961 searching for the American dream. Indeed, she found love, a career, and built a loving home for her family. Teresa began working at the Organization of American States (OAS) when she arrived in the U.S. where she made many lifelong friends. She subsequently served as “hostess with the mostest” as the wife of a Foreign Service Officer stationed in Ecuador and Peru – those social events were legendary! Upon the retirement of her beloved Simon, she went back to the OAS while also volunteering with various organizations, rising to President of the Asociacion de Damas Bolivianas from 1980-1985 and 1991-1995, as well as President of the Mesa Redonda Panamericana from 1997-1999. Throughout the years she assembled an incredible collection of dolls from around the world, many of which are now found at the Museo de Muñecas Elsa Paredes de Salazar in La Paz. There are few people who ever crossed her path in her life that would not remember her for something – her strength, her generosity, her faith, her beauty, her intelligence – she was a heck of a card player, whether it was Bridge or Canaston, and she practically had a map of the DC area in her head way before GPS was a thing. Teresa is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Simon Jacob Weinger; her dear mother, Felicidad Ascarrunz; brothers Marcelo and Emilio Ascarrunz; cousins, Elsa Salazar and Michi Villagomez; and sister-in-law, Clelia Ascarrunz. She is survived by her three daughters, Sandra Weinger of Chantilly, Va.; Tammy (Brian) Kalish of McLean, Va.; and Karen (Brian) Keyser of Swan Point, Md. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joy and she cherished every moment spent with them - John, Mark and Eric (Maria) Pace; Ashleigh (Nathan) Lopez; Brian Jr. and Maya Kalish; Rachel Weatherby; Anthony, Madilynn and Abigail Lopez; and Ivy Pace. She also had step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren who affectionately called her “Abita,” and she was “Tia Tere” to countless nieces and nephews whom she loved very much. Family and friends are invited to the visitation that will be held on Thursday, May 16th from 9am-10am at St. Timothy's Catholic Church 13807 Poplar Tree Rd. Chantilly, VA 20151, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10am.
