THIBODEAU, Andre Louis, Ed.D., Professor Emeritus at Hunter College, City University of New York, a resident of Gloucester, MA, New York City and Fort Lauderdale, FL, passed away unexpectedly at his home on May 11, 2024.
Dr. Thibodeau was born in Salem, MA on January 12, 1936 along with his identical twin Armand, to Marietta Olivine Michaud and Rodrigue W. Armand Thibodeau. Andre and Armand spent their childhood years in Gloucester, graduating from Gloucester High School, where they excelled in football and track.
“The Twins” as Andre and his brother were known, attended Salem State University, graduating in 1958, with a degree in education. They entered Boston University‘s Master of Science in Education program. Both were awarded a Teaching Fellowship by the Doctoral Faculty in Elementary Education, earning a Doctorate in Education in 1963. While full-time, graduate students, Andre and Armand served six years in the National Guard Reserve, Artillery Unit, stationed in Gloucester, MA.
Andre spent his career at City University of New York, Hunter College. Professional associations included the American Association of University Professors, and a lifetime member of Phi Delta Kappa Honor Society in Education. He was a consultant to two National Defense Education Act grant programs aimed at improving the instruction of urban disadvantaged children –one at the University of California at Hayward, Institute for Team Training of Urban Educators, and the other at Hunter College CUNY.
An avid traveler, Andre enjoyed extended trips, including a year-long journey around the world with Armand. As a man who enjoyed sun and surf, upon retiring, Honolulu became a second home where he could escape the snow and ice of New York City. When Andre determined it was best to relocate permanently to a warmer climate, Fort Lauderdale offered the best of both worlds with mild winters, beautiful beaches and a panoramic view of the Atlantic Ocean in the cruise capital of the world.
Andre pursued his interest in cooking, researching and testing a wide variety of recipes, improving family favorites and creating new dishes.
While Armand and brother Rodrigue pre deceased him, Andre leaves behind his husband Bojan, of Fort Lauderdale with whom he shared many wonderful years as a loving and devoted couple, and his niece Christiane Abbott.
