Tom was born to Armando and Eva Mendoza in Fresno on October 26, 1965. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, and later joined U.S. Forest Service Hotshot Crew. In 1987 he joined the United States Navy and served for 8 years. Upon returning to Fresno, he started with the Fresno County Sheriff's Department and worked there for over thirty years.
He was preceded in death by his father Armando.
Tom is survived by his wife Marie Mendoza, his children Thomas Alexander Mendoza, Jeremy Mendoza, Jose Arredondo and Alyssa Arredondo. He is also survived by his mother Eva, and his siblings Paco Mendoza and Laura Mendoza.
Throughout his life journey, Tom remained a man who stood dedicated his life to his family, friends, and his faith. In 2019, he was eager to celebrate his love for Marie on the shores of Cancun with vows amongst their children. This experience in its entirety was one of his most cherished memories that was constantly revisited during holidays and gathering. As time moved forward, Tom retired in 2020 to care for his mother Eva. After dedicating over 30 years of service, he was proud to take on this responsibility that honored his father’s last wishes. Life for Tom had found stability in caring for family as well as eagerly working on property in Washington with his wife, Marie. Though he was a man of many hobbies, his passion was to be closer to the wilderness. His time spent in Washington fulfilled a special place in his heart, where he was able to create even more memories with his family. Through all these moments in his life he would often describe as “gifts”, he remained thankful to God for all the blessings bestowed on him. Tom was an incredibly special human who touched the lives of everyone who crossed his path. He not only had the ability to leave positive lifelong impacts, but his presence remained a light that followed him everywhere he went. This was his gift, and for this, we are blessed.
