Betty Bales, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2024 under the compassionate care of Capital City Hospice. She was born to Samuel and Lillian Roe, and throughout her 98 years of life, she touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Betty was married to her beloved husband Charles Bales for 55 years until his passing. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. Betty was preceded in death by her daughter Bette Noel Knecht (Skip), and her husband Charles. She is survived by her daughter Charlys Henricksen (Richard), and her four grandchildren: David Knecht (Carrie), Debra Knecht Readinger (Richard), Christopher Henricksen (Amy), and Chaundra Henricksen Catrone (Rick). Betty was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren who brought immeasurable joy into her life; Matthew Knecht, Katie Knecht Clay Broadhurst, Logan Readinger (Emily), Charles John Readinger, Madeline Henricksen, Benjamin Henricksen, Torria Catrone, and Dominic Catrone.
She leaves behind sisters Avis Wohlfort, Nancy McKay, brother Dean Roe, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Betty lived in Cleveland, OH for 70 years prior to relocating to live with her daughter in 2020. She was also a member of Lakewood Presbyterian Church in Lakewood, Ohio, for 70 years where her faith and compassion shone brightly as well as a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).
Betty's zest for life was evident in her love for travel, her passion for reading, and her unwavering devotion to her family. Whether exploring new destinations with her husband or simply spending time surrounded by loved ones, Betty's warmth and kindness touched everyone she encountered.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to Capital City Hospice, whose care and support brought comfort to Betty in her final days.
A private family service to honor Betty’s life will be held at a later date. Betty will be inurned next to her late husband at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
