Edward Louie Scarborough

Edward Louie Scarborough, 66, “Special Ed”, “Fast Eddie”, “Big Ed”, “Grandaddy” and “Dad”, went to his heavenly home on May 10, 2024. He was surrounded by his immediate family at UAB hospital after a battle with ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome). To know Ed was to love him. He never met a stranger. He lit up a room with his award winning personality.

He is walking the streets of Gold with his mother and father Julia and Thomas Reid Scarborough, several of his aunts and uncles, his brother-in-laws, friends, and many four-legged companions he has loved so well over the years.

He had a passion for life and lived every day in the speeding lane! He sang from the moment his eyes opened and never woke up on the wrong side of the bed. He loved his business, Earth Leveling Service, motorcycles, or anything fast for that matter, snow skiing, hunting and fishing, the Red Rocks, RV’ing, concerts, and good Mexican Food. Years ago he was a barefoot skier and avid kayaker. He had a special place in his heart for Mexico Missions with SendMe Refuge. He stood 6’6 and often times weighed right around 275 so it wasn’t only his personality that was big! Words don’t do this man justice! You just had to know him, and so many of you did.

He is leaving behind his wife of 26 years, Terri Goodwin Scarborough and his daughters and their husbands; Rheana Scarborough Thornton and Norwood Charles Thornton III, Nohealani Naehu Campbell and Ty Campbell, and Kanoa Naehu Craven and Paul Craven, as well as his 23 month old grandson, Norwood Charles Thornton IV “Woods”, the apple of his eye and spitting image of his grandfather. He is also leaving his brother Tommy, and sisters, Dianne and Sheila as well as nieces and nephews. Gone too soon, but never forgotten. He has forever changed our lives for the better.

A visitation for Ed will be held Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Ridout's Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, AL 35071, followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 PM. Please wear bright colors that represent Big Ed's bright personality.

We would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at UAB, Dr. Adam Harrison and Cullman Internal Medicine, Aveanna Home Health and Chad Elliott (physical therapist) for their knowledge, expertise and endless support over the past few months.
