Herma, affectionally known as Hermine, was called to her heavenly rest on, May 8th 2024 She was born on March 5, 1928 in Kingston Jamaica.
Herma devoted most of her life to raising her children as a mother and homemaker. She learned the skills of sewing and cooking from her mother and passed these on to her children. In addition to taking care of her home, she occupied her time with dressmaking, teaching culinary skills and teaching Family Life Education to students at Cobbla Youth Development Center while living in Jamaica.
Mom and dad were avid gardeners and enjoyed growing flowers and vegetables. Mom also enjoyed baking and making wine with a variety of fruits. Some of her fondest memories are the times she sang on the St Margret’s choir as a young woman and it was there that she met her husband Cyprian. She enjoyed singing the great hymns of the church and was a lead soprano on the choir of St. Paul’s Anglican church.
Herma along with Cyprian migrated to the United States in 1976 where they resided in Orlando, Florida, there she worked as a part-time care giver and assisted in raising her grandchildren. Mom continued her labor of love in the church at Holy Family in Orlando and later at Ocoee Oaks United Methodist Church.
Herma was preceded in death by Cyprian, her husband of 60 years, her mother Mary, and her daughter Pat. She is survived by her children Marcia, Michael, Cyprian Jr., Joan, her eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mommy will always be remembered by her family, many friends and acquaintances as an optimist. She never failed to instruct her children and anyone that would listen to her, to love God and each other. One of her favorite phrases is; “it can always be worse”. That is usually her answer when asked how she was feeling. Whether in the nursing home or elsewhere, mom always encouraged others to put God first in all things.
Her family is eternally grateful to all her caregivers. This includes those who cared for her in her home in Orlando and those who cared for her in the nursing home in Port St Lucie.
We will miss her dearly; however we rejoice in the fact that she is in the arms of her Loving Savior and that we will see her again.
