On Thursday, May 9, 2024 Sheila Chunoo went home to be with our Lord and Savior. Sheila was born in Georgetown, Guyana at the Georgetown Public Hospital on November 27, 1949. She was baptized at Our Lady of Fatima church, and attended the St. Sidwells school. In 1972 she married Rupert Mahendranauth Chunoo at Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Sheila and Rupert moved to the United States in 1972, and lived in Manhattan, New York until the family moved to West Orange, New Jersey. Rupert and Sheila raised their four children in New Jersey until 1990, when they relocated to Orlando, Florida.
During her precious time with us, she left such a lasting impression with everyone she encountered. Sheila had a spirit of hospitality and a passion for creation. She had a gift of baking, making delicacies in the kitchen, and creating the most beautifully elaborate crafts. She enjoyed sharing these hobbies with those she cared for and loved.
Having moved to America as a young couple, Sheila and Rupert knew the importance of establishing roots and building a strong family. Sheila’s dedication to her family was without equal. She worked tirelessly to ensure they were encouraged, embraced every opportunity, and had the courage to meet any challenge. She shared this dedication to her friends who often sought her encouragement and advice.
Her dedication to the Lord led her to live a life of happiness, servitude and unwavering faith. She lived the word of the Lord each day as she loved each person she encountered knowing they too were a child of God. She celebrated those around her and all the good they brought.
She will be remembered by all as a woman who treated so many as if they were her family, and embraced many as if they were one of her children. Sheila embraced every day as a blessing and chose to see it through a lens of positivity and prosperity. Her lasting advice and the quote she lived by was, “if you put your mind to it, you can do it.” She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her and will be remembered as someone who made this world a brighter place.
Sheila is survived by her husband Rupert Chunoo, children Davina, Karena and Chadwick Chunoo, son-in-law, Bradley Barnhill and granddaughter Arianna Chunoo. May she rest in peace with the Lord.
