He was the pastor of Lord’s Tabernacle for 44 years. Pastor Buster has pastored faithfully all these years along with reaching out to all the calls to the hospitals ministry, nursing homes, officiating many, many funerals in Greene County and surrounding counties, also visiting at jails.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Gaye Shelton; daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Gary Shepherd of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law: Mark and Janie Shelton of Mosheim and Darrell and Joyce Stills of Greeneville; two grandsons: Mitch Shelton of Mosheim and Darrell and Mindy Stills of Greeneville; five great grandchildren: Jacob Shelton, Molly Shelton, Kayley Stills, Sierra Stills, Mykenzy Stills; foster daughter: Linda Berry and family; brothers: Rev. Raymond and Helen Shelton of Greeneville, Ora “John Boy” Shelton of Greeneville, Warner and Verna Shelton of Georgia, Jerry Shelton of Flag Pond; sisters: Lois Ann Graybeal of Greeneville, Glenda and David Huff of Lexington, KY; several nieces and nephews; special friend of the family, Lou Barnes.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ervin and Theora Ramsey Shelton and his siblings: Roland Shelton, Willard Shelton, Flora Shelton, Myrtle Wilder, Beulah Turner, Gerald Shelton, Clarice Harris and Bernice Silvers.
The family will receive friends 2:00-4:00 pm and 5:00-8:00 pm Wednesday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday in the funeral home chapel with interment to follow at River Hill Cemetery. Evangelist Brian Burchfield, Rev. Harley Greene, Rev. Tim Shanks, and Chaplain Gregg Graybeal will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Dwayne Wyatt, Marcus Carter, Matthew Hensley, Doug Justice, Gary Helbert, Ricky Ball and Randy Carter.
Honorary pallbearers are Sammy Fox, Dr. Joe Austin, Jimmy Ricker, Kyle Harris, and his many pastor and preacher friends.
The family extends special thanks to everyone for the prayers, thoughts, food, and calls during this difficult time.
