JESSOP, Alice Susanna aged 93 passed away May 10, 2024, at the QEII Infirmary in the presence of her family. Born on November 28, 1930 in Halifax, she was the only daughter of the late John and Matilda Roberts. Alice was predeceased by her loving husband Lcdr John Charles Jessop who passed away on September 30, 2000. She is survived by her children David (Deborah) Jessop, Linda Jessop and Brian (Angela) Jessop; her Grandchildren Heather Lynch (Kevin), Colin Blore, Andrew, Anna, Leah and Nicole Jessop great grandchildren Frederick, Gwyneth and Henry Lynch; Brothers Neil (Peggy) Roberts and Ross (Lillian deceased) Roberts all of Halifax.
Alice grew up in Armdale and had fond memories of Winchester Ave. She was an active member of the Anglican Youth Club at St. James Church for many years. Upon graduation from Queen Elizabeth High School, Alice worked for the Anglican Chaplin’s office in CFB Stadacona where she met Charlie and subsequently married him in August 1951. After a brief honeymoon in Hubbard's via the Acadian Lines bus, they were posted to Washington, DC. This was the beginning of a very extensive itinerary of postings throughout Canada where they repeatedly settled in and fostered new friends. Their final posting was in 1968 when they ironically returned to CFB Stadacona taking up residence in Wellington House (N). Upon Charlie’s retirement they enjoyed many sight-seeing trips throughout the world and spend their summers at the cottage on Caribou Lake. Time at the cottage was only surpassed by her love and involvement with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was often seen at the side of a soccer field or at a lake watching her grandchildren compete in paddling competitions. One of her fond memories was the trip to Montreal in 2011 to watch her grandkids paddle in the Canadian Nations.
Mom loved the church and volunteered her time in the many Church Guild activities at The Cathedral of All Saints. She also volunteered for many years with the Canadian Cancer Society by campaigning in her neighbourhood to support a charity she believed in.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Snow’s Funeral Home with no visitation scheduled. There will be a celebration of Holy Communion at The Cathedral Church of All Saints on Tower Road, conducted by The Very Reverend Paul Smith on Friday May 24, 2:00 pm with internment of ashes in St Alban’s Columbarium followed by a reception in the Great Hall. In Lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Naval Memorial Trust or Charity of choice.
