Margaret was the fourth of six children born to the late Sydney and Annie (MacLean) Carter in Sec.27, Tp27, Rge12, W3rd, Saskatchewan on February 9, 1923 and grew up in Oxford, Nova Scotia.
Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband of 32 years, John Braithwaite McNaughton and by her sisters Pat and Marie as well as her brothers Don and Colin. She is survived by her daughter Wendy (Frank) Richardson and son Bradley McNaughton, and was the proud and loving nanny of Devon (Brent) Richardson, Cameron (Natasha) Richardson, Paige (Alex) Morash and Colin (Sonya) McNaughton and great nanny of Zoie and Henry Richardson as well as Carter and Emilia Morash. Margaret is also survived by her remaining sibling, Dale (Jane).
After graduating from High School Margaret studied Pharmacy at the Maritime College of Pharmacy in Halifax, NS. After graduating in 1943, she practiced Pharmacy at the Camp Hill Veterans Hospital in Halifax. During that time she met her future husband John (Mac) McNaughton, a British Naval Officer stationed in Halifax. They married in 1945 and moved to England, finally returning to Canada in 1949 to raise their family.
Margaret continued to practice in her Profession while raising her family in Saint John, New Brunswick until her retirement in the mid 1980’s. She eventually moved to Halifax in 1997 to be closer to her children and grandchildren and became an integral part of their lives.
Margaret’s life was always about her family and she never missed a special event or occasion to celebrate them.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Margarets Life will be held at the J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS on Wednesday, May 22nd between the hours of 2pm and 4pm.
Private family interment to follow at a later date.
