Greg spent his childhood in Ventura where he developed a love of the ocean and beach. He spent many days at the beach, swimming in the ocean with his sisters and friends. He moved with his family to Lemoore when he was 12 and graduated from Lemoore High School in 1980. It was in high school that he met his wife, Lori Moore.
Greg followed in his father and grandfather's footsteps and became a carpenter with the Carpenters Union, Local 180 chapter in Vallejo, CA. Greg was smart and had an excellent work ethic. He began working for large bay area construction companies working on various projects such as bridges, local courthouse, and rest stop remodels. He was a valued employee at Taber Construction where he was Superintendent of Construction in charge of the Stanford and UCSF hospital remodels.
Greg and Lori relocated to Visalia in 2019. He then began working for GV Burrows driving gas delivery trucks. He was excited to learn this new skill and trade which he enjoyed as well as being closer to family.
Greg's love for the ocean continued as he and Lori took annual Hawaiian vacations over many years. They recently began vacationing in their RV, enjoying the California and Oregon coasts.
Greg loved basketball, football and riding his Harley. He and Lori created beautiful backyard oases with their passion for gardening flowers, fruit and vegetables. He loved his family and God.
Greg leaves behind his adoring wife, Lori and his three children, Justin McCown, Brandon McCown (Stephanie) and Chelsea Horton (Jeremy). He also had two step children, Laci Fountinelle, (Davey) and Nate Miranda, (Jennifer). He and Lori have 11 grandchildren, Taylor, Justin Jr., Don, Kanick, Jackson, Maya, Maverick, Gentry, Pharen, Scarlett and Christopher.
Greg was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Wilma.
He is survived by his father Don McCown, his sisters, Tami Crawford and Kristi Bachman, his nephew Eric Crawford and great nephew William Crawford. Greg comes from a large extended family and had many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to a memorial service at People’s Funeral Chapel, 501 N. Douty St., Hanford on Monday, May 13 at 10:00 a.m.
