Art was born in Manila, Philippines on August 26, 1952 to Samuel Dauglash and Remidios Barnhart, the third youngest of twelve children. Art grew up in Manila, however, being an American citizen he moved to Los Angeles, CA in 1975.
Art lived with his uncle Tony and began working for an aerospace company where he met Roberta Waag. In June of 1979 they were married and moved to Torrance, CA. Sadly, not long after, Roberta passed away due to cancer.
In 1981 Art began working at Rexnord Specialty Fastener, later Fairchild Fasteners. He spent his days off doing two of his favorite things; playing basketball, and dancing.
One Saturday night in July 1983 at a dance club in LA, he saw Linda Juhl and asked her to dance, it was the beginning of what became over forty years of a deep love and commitment for both Linda, and her son Joshua.
In July of 1985 Art and Linda were engaged and bought a home in Downey, CA. On August 29, 1988, with Joshua as ring bearer/best man, they were married in Las Vegas, NV.
Art had a very dedicated work ethic, always working overtime, taking on extra responsibilities and consistently received excellent reviews. Over the years he worked in different departments, allowing him to become familiar with the entire production process. If material or a part went missing, Art was the "go-to" guy in the plant. In 2001 he became a Production Control Coordinator for two product lines. (Or as he laughingly put it, "I go around hitting people on the head with a clip-board"). During these years he also took several extension courses and Cerritos College to further his education and job skills.
Art's favorite sport was basketball, he loved playing with his buddies on the weekend and watching his favorite teams. When Josh started sports Art never missed a game, he would go straight from work to the practice field, be it baseball, soccer or basketball often helping coach.
After twenty-two years at Fairchild, Art decided it was time for a change. Having family living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, a job offer, and loving to fish winter and summer, they sold their home in Downey, purchased a home on an acre of land in Rapid River, and moved in December of 2003. Art worked part-time until December 2005 when he began to work full-time for VanAire Inc. in Gladstone, working another ten years, before retiring in May 2016, and fishing full-time.
Art's retirement also allowed him to spend time with his older sister Elizabeth, who lived in Winnipeg. He enjoyed taking a week or so each year visiting with her, doing odd jobs around the house and Beth also loved fishing as much as he did. When she became ill in 2015 he spent three months there taking care of her, and continued to do so traveling back and forth until her passing in 2020.
In the Spring of 2019 Art and Linda decided it was time to downsize and return to a warmer climate for retirement, they picked Arizona and found a home in Mohave Valley. Art spent his time tinkering away in the garage, chatting with neighbors and taking road trips with Linda exploring the tri-State area. Even in retirement his "new" job was voluntarily doing light maintenance at the local dog park where he regularly took their dogs. And of course following his beloved basketball.
Art loved animals, there were always two or three dogs and just as many cats to love, all rescues that he could never say no to.
Art loved traveling, always "a full tank and an open mind." Through the years, he and Linda would go camping once or twice a year in Kings Canyon National Park or Yosemite, later a trip to Maui, a weekend cruise to Ensenada, later a land-sea tour and cruise through Alaska and Canada and down the Inside Passage. In late 2017 they purchased a small RV and spent the summer of 2018 traveling around the US exploring and visiting family.
Art trusted in God, always looked ahead, never backward, never held a grudge, and family always came first.
He also had a wicked sense of humor, you never saw it coming, and life was never boring.
On Saturday April 13th, after spending a morning with his beloved Buddy at the dog park, Art sat down to take a rest in his "man-cave" and God decided it was time for him to come home.
