Anna Lee Whitener, age 47, was born on October 3, 1976 to Jimmy and Lynn Chambers. She grew up in Catawba County and graduated from Bunker Hill High School in 1995. She left us on May 10, 2024 while surrounded by family.
While in high school, Anna began working in the dietary department at Brian Center in Viewmont, NC. This began a lifetime of service to the elderly and the sick. After high school graduation, Anna earned her CNA license. She spent her entire career working at Brian Center, Hospice and finally at The Greens of Hickory. Her patients loved her kindness and ability to make them laugh. She was an incredible care giver who was gentle and patient but also loud, funny, and always working to bring a smile to someone’s face.
Anna loved being outdoors. Growing up, she spent countless weeks at the beach and loved searching for shells. While everyone else would play in the ocean, read, or relax, Anna would walk for miles, combing the sand for the tiniest of treasures. She really did find joy in the little things. She also loved hiking and discovering waterfalls. Before her cancer diagnosis, she spent most every weekend hiking to yet another waterfall she had never seen. Along the way, she appreciated the flowers, mushrooms and small animals she would come across.
Anna knew how to enjoy life and soak up every minute of happiness. She loved card games and was ridiculously competitive. She loved laughing and making others laugh. She loved her family and friends. Her absence leaves a hole that will never be filled.
Anna was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Shuford and Frances Sigmon, parents Jimmy Chambers and Lynn Whitener, stepfather Donald Whitener, cousin Brian Mackie, uncle Dave Clarke, and cousins Hardin and Marin Steelmon. She is survived by her three children, Evan Hollar, Savannah Lockwood, and Camdon Collins, grandchildren Kayden Hollar and Raelynn Lockwood, fiancée Tim Grogan, sister April Chambers, aunts Jan Clarke and Sherry Lutz, uncle George Lutz, and cousin Josh Steelmon along with his wife Melissa and son, Maverick.
The family will hold a private burial, then will host a celebration of life at a date in the near future. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rising Hope Farms or Carolina Caring Catawba Valley Hospice.
