Obituary of Ms.  Estella Jones
Ms. Estella Jones, affectionately known as “Stella” was the oldest child of Deacon Joe T. Jones and Mary Elizabeth Travis Jones. She was born July 2, 1948, in Belzoni, Mississippi. Stella moved to Indianapolis, Indiana at a very young age with her parents. She confessed a belief in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Travelers Rest Baptist Church. Indianapolis is where she embarked on her own life journey. She graduated from George Washington High School and then attended Ivy Tech Community College where she received certification as a Qualified Medication Aid. Stella was a compassionate woman, she spent majority of her career caring for others. She worked for IU Health, Wishard Hospital, and other skilled nursing facilities. She took pride in taking care of others and loved her career choice. Her biggest joy was her family- daughters, La-Chana Calderon “Niceay” and Kan-Chana Jones “Lynn”; her grandsons: Tre Dunn, Kimoni Miller and D’Marco Wilson and her great grandson, Tre-Dyn Dunn. She found joy in loving on her family and friends. She never met a stranger, everybody was family. Her heart was as big as the sun; she was such a joy and ray of sunshine for all that met her. Even on tough days, Stella could find the silver lining. Her optimism was contagious. She had a way of making everyone laugh; her sense of humor was a gift. Outside of her family life, Stella loved to have a good time. She loved to dance and listen to her Blues and Southern Soul music. Stella went to “sleep with the Lord” on Saturday May 11, 2024, at the age of seventy-five years. She was preceded in death by her Father, Deacon Joe T. Jones; Mother, Mary Elizabeth Travis Jones; grandparents: Rev. Dallas Jones, Addie B. King Jones, Rayford and Nola Bee Holdman Travis; sister and best friend, Marion Jones “Dean”; brothers; Donald Jones Sr., Aaron Jones, Joe Jones Jr., Charles Jones; nephews, Donald Jones Jr “Pig” and Thomas Plummer Sr.; great-nephew, Terence Plummer III; great-nieces, Heaven and Angela Gillespie and Tai’Vonna Ford, and nephew in-law, Marcus Taylor Sr. “Mark”. Stella is survived by her beautiful daughters, La-Chana Calderon (August Calderon) and Kan-Chana Jones; grandsons: Tre Dunn, Kimoni Miller, and D’marco Wilson; great-grandson, Tre’dyn Dunn; sisters: Nola B McNary (Walter McNary), Tosha Jones, Roberta Pittman, Charlene “Linda” Jones, Beverly “Umm” Brown, Angela Mitchell, and Andrea Northington; brothers: Thomas Jones, Redd, and Troy Harmon. Her nieces that she loved as her own daughters: Lakina Brown, LaTeia Lee, Donlisa Jones and Shakeia Barnes (Gale Barnes). In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind a cherished group of family and friend. A wake for Estella will be held Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208. A celebration of life will occur Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 12:00 PM, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208. A final resting place will occur Saturday, May 25, 2024 at Crown Hill Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208. A repast will occur Saturday, May 25, 2024, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208.
