Obituary of William R. Drane
William Reid Drane was born on September 23, 1939, in Indianapolis, IN., and was the 1st born to Ethel and William Drane. William attended Indianapolis Public Schools and after that he was hired at Citizen Gas Company where he faithfully served 37 years before retiring. On November 29, 1965, William married the LOVE of his life, Teresa Wade. William and Teresa’s life together was amazing, a living fairytale! You never seen one without the other. They did everything together, traveled, entertained, worked in the yard and went to church. William pastime enjoyment was racing cars. He received his certifications in driving race cars, in which he and his son “Billy” would travel to Arizona to race and experience the racing world. William traveled to California and Vegas to show off his racing techniques and skills. We think sometimes he really thought he was one of the Indianapolis 500 drivers. He and his buddy Anna Taylor would make their way to the Indy 500 qualifications every year. That was the highlight of the Month of May for them. William also enjoyed working in his yard alongside his wife. They took pride in making their yard look like a picture-perfect environment that everyone enjoyed coming over to relax. William also enjoyed watching the Colts and Pacers play, he was one of their biggest fans. Whether they won or loss, they were his #1 teams. William will always be remember as being cool and no-nonsense guy. He loved being around his family and friends. He was always described as “A Great Guy”, A Great Husband, Father, Son, Uncle, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend. William confessed his love and joined Mt. Carmel church July 13, 2008. He, Teresa, Tracy and Michael went to church every Sunday and enjoyed it. He also had a group of adopted sons and daughters that truly looked up to him. William smile will be one that will never be forgotten. His kind-heartedness will live on forever in his family and friends, William and Teresa had a group of friends from Kokomo, Michigan, Florida, and Tennessee that they entertained with for over 50 years and to this day remain very close. William also inquired a group of his daughter, Tracy’s friends that adopted him as their dad. Donna Moorman, Bridgette Ferguson, Shirley Love, Karllena Brady, Bobby Jones, Keena Allison, Shelly Webster and a list of more friends. William also enjoyed looking on “Facebook”, he had one granddaughter, Ivory, who kept him entertained with her pictures and videos. She was so much like her grandfather. William was preceded in death by his Mother Ethel Drane, Father William Drane, Brothers; Louis and Michael Drane, Son William Drane II, Granddaughter Alta Drane, and Mother-in-law Margaret Clayton. William departed this life on May 6, 2024, at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 6 days. William is survived by his Loving and Wonderful Wife Teresa, Daughters; Tracy, Tonya (Rodney Muller), Dominiece, Sons; Eric and Jeffrey, Daughter-in-Law, Joy Drane, seven nephews; Steve, Andre, Michael, Darrell, Darryl, Adrian, Zac., 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. A visitation for William will be held Friday, May 17, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Mt. Carmel Church, 9610 East 42nd St, Indianapolis, IN 46235, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM.
