Doris Ann (Doe) Winfree Wilson was an adventurous soul. Born in North Carolina, she left after a few years of college for Las Vegas where she spent the rest of her life. She was an excellent cook and had over 300 cookbooks in her collection. She enjoyed the challenge of entertaining, always making it appear so effortless with the exact recipe, in the just the right serving dish that coordinated with her clothing, jewelry and home decor. There was no detail too small for her; however, what many admired most was her compassion for all animals. Doe truly walked the walk.
After a brief stint as a phone operator, she worked for the Sumatra Corporation securing entertainment for all the Hughes Hotels and Casinos. After that she transferred to their corporate office where she panned administrative conferences and retreats. When she retired, she served as administrative assistant for the Thunderbirds Alumni. Her patriotism and organizational skills served her well in this capacity for several years. Please refer to the Thunderbirds Alumni Facebook page for their tribute.
Doe loved traveling. She enjoyed annual trips to Hawaii. Most afternoons you could find her dressed to the max, sipping a Mai Tai, watching the horizon for dolphins, and migrating humpback whales and their babies.
She also loved staying at “the cottage” in New Hampshire. Early evenings she would be on the deck with her rescued dogs, Freeway and Lucky, having a cocktail and appetizers while watching the sun set over the ocean. Her mind would already be planning tomorrow’s adventure.
Doe leaves behind a husband of forty years, Charles, a niece, Donna Sue (Al), two nephews, Donald (Maria) and Doug (Lu), two grand nieces, Reina (Stewart) and Diane (Kable), two great grand nieces, Tess and Sydney, a great grandnephew, Hendrix and of course her two rescued dogs. We will miss you, Doe. She will also be missed by her many friends from California to New Hampshire.
Doe will be buried at Boulder City, NV. The private service will be held on May 20, 2024. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing to your favorite animal rescue organization. It will make Doe smile.
I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved; He that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is thy keeper: the Lord is thy shade
upon thy right hand. The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil; He shall preserve thy soul. The Lord shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.
