Steven Martin Maass of Chapin, a beloved husband and father, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 67, on Saturday May 11, 2024. He was born in Teaneck, New Jersey on July 3, 1956 to Mildred Brereton and George Maass, and raised in Elmwood Park, New Jersey.
Steve's journey was marked by academic excellence and athletic prowess, particularly in basketball, earning him a well-deserved place in Elmwood Park High School's Basketball Hall of Fame. After completing his education at Cornell University and Fairleigh Dickinson University, Steve embarked on a successful career path, eventually becoming the proud broker/owner of three RE/MAX offices in New Jersey. His dedication and leadership were recognized when he was honored as Broker/Owner of the Year. Later, he transitioned to a role as a bank consultant for Bank of America, where his expertise in mergers and acquisitions shone. Transitioning to a more leisurely pace of life, Steve eventually moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with his family and found fulfillment in establishing CaddiePros, a golf venture that reflected his passion for the sport and allowed him to embrace a more relaxed lifestyle.
A man of many passions, Steve found joy in supporting his favorite sports teams, especially the New York Giants and Yankees, and later the University of South Carolina Gamecocks when his daughter, Courtney, attended and graduated from the university. His enthusiasm for Gamecock sports led to him being named Horry County Gamecock Club's Gamecock of the Year, a testament to his unwavering commitment.
In his free time, Steve cherished moments at the beach, rounds of golf with lifelong friends, and the camaraderie of hosting tailgate parties. He had a deep affection for animals, particularly his beloved Golden Retrievers, Nellie and Kacey Beth, and his daughter's dog, Aspen.
Above all, Steve's greatest source of pride and joy was his family. He leaves behind his loving wife, Judy (Birch) Maass and devoted daughter, Courtney Maass, who will continue to carry forward his legacy of love, strength and kindness.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Steve's memory will forever remain in the hearts of all that knew him.
A memorial service will be held for Steve at 4:00 PM on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – Lexington Chapel, 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in the Fall under the lights at Williams-Brice Stadium.
