Ofelia was born in Santa Clara, Cuba on November 15, 1936, to Manuel Gonzales and Ofelia Pacheco.
After graduating from college in Havana, she married Ernesto R. Fernandez in 1961 and proceeded to have three handsome sons, Ernesto M., Jorge R., and Alejandro C.. Fleeing communism in their homeland, Ofelia, and her young family where exiled to the United States in early 1970. With only a suitcase in hand and the clothes on their backs, they began a new life in Atlanta. She began work in a downtown factory assembling lamps and later joined Bank of America and worked as a Data entry supervisor. After more than two decades of faithful service at the bank, she retired in the early 2000’s.
Ofelia was the quintessential, Proverbs 31 Woman, virtuous and full of wisdom. She was an exceptional cook, loved to travel, and spend time with her eight grandchildren. But most of all, she loved Jesus and his church.
Ofelia was predeceased by her father, Manuel, her mother, Ofelia, her husband Ernesto R. and her sister, Odilia.
She is survived by two sisters, Olga and Otmara, her sons and their wives, Ernesto M. and Awara, Jorge Rafael, Alejandro, and Susan, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Services will be held on Thursday May 16, at Iglesia Cristo Vive, 5915 Lawrenceville Hwy, Tucker Ga. 30084.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to her favorite ministry, En Contacto.org, the Spanish ministries of bible teacher, Dr. Charles Stanley.
