Betty Jean Smith, age 95 of Mishawaka, Indiana, formerly of Lincoln, Nebraska, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 12, 2024. Betty was born September 6, 1928 in Lincoln, Nebraska to the late Ralph and Thelma (Byrkit) Davis. In April of 1946 she married Leonard J. Smith. Leonard preceded her in death on January 14, 2008.
Surviving is her daughter Janet L. Ward of Mishawaka, 3 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her son, Paul Smith, her son in law, Larry Ward, and her grandson Johnathan Ward. Betty’s heart overflowed with love for her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Betty tenderly cared for her husband Leonard for many years following his service in WWII. Her selflessness and dedication were the hallmarks of her character. In her younger years, Betty's creative spirit blossomed through her passion for ceramics. She crafted countless pieces, firing them to perfection in her very own kiln. Her artistic talents knew no bounds, as she gifted her family and friends with her beautiful paintings, each a representation of her love for her art.
Betty found peace and strength in her faith, actively participating in the Assembly of God Church and the United Missionary Church. An animal lover at heart, Betty's love for her poodles was unmatched.
Their companionship brought her joy and comfort throughout the years. Her legacy of love, creativity, and faith will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind cherished memories and a profound impact on the hearts of those she held dear. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the love she so freely gave.
