Our dear mother, Carolyn June Hurst, was born in Apache, Oklahoma to Rufus William Hurst and Verta Mae Lovelace. At the tender age of 3, her family moved west, and settled near Oakley, California. After graduation from Brentwood high school, she attended Humphrey’s Business School where she learned bookkeeping skills that defined her career. She finally retired as the Director of the Nevada Rural Housing Authority. She loved quilting, counted cross-stitch, reading, and baking.
She met Hugh Edward Stockton at a drive-in hamburger stand and they were married on August 17, 1957. They were blessed with three children, Bryan, Roger, and Janet. The family lived in Lodi, California until a job opportunity took them to South Lake Tahoe, California where they would live until 1972. They then moved to the Carson Valley in Nevada and found the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1975. They remained faithful the rest of their lives. Carolyn served in many capacities and was especially skilled in Genealogy and often taught these skills to others.
Carolyn left us on May 5, 2024 with Janet by her bedside. She is survived by son, Bryan (Elizabeth), daughter, Janet Jenkins (Mike), thirteen grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband, Hugh and son, Roger (Colleen). We will miss her, but we rest in the knowledge that she is now reunited with her loved ones who passed before her and that she has been freed from the pain and suffering of this world.
