Charles was born on December 18, 1935, to Paul and Louise (née Smith) Thomas in Mobile, Alabama. After high school, Charles enlisted in the Air Force and went on to serve his country honorably in both the United States and Japan.
Charles met the love of his life, Joyce McNeil, and they married on December 31, 1955. Charles attended college at the University of South Alabama majoring in physics. Spanning his sixty-year career as a technical procedure writer for the chemistry and nuclear industries, Charles and Joyce lived in various states across the country. They returned to their home in Mobile after retiring.
Charles was a devoted follower of Christ, loving husband, father, and grandfather. His love of family and the desire for a better life for them was the essence of who he was. He was described by all who knew him as a humble man of integrity, character and generosity.
Charles is preceded in death by his loving wife Joyce, his parents Paul & Louise Thomas, his sisters Marilyn Anderson and Murdis Hebert and his brothers Paul and Raymond.
He is survived by his sisters Helen Shirah and Sharon Collier, his son Jeff (Julia), daughter Karen (Dr. Kevin Bailey - preceded in death) & son Steven (Dena), and grandchildren Dr. Courtney Metz, Madison Gasperre (Jake), and Micah Thomas.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM until the service hour.
