In September 2019, Garry moved to Nanaimo where he found his wonderful apartment right across from the beach. He became a member of the Nanaimo Golf Club where he golfed almost every day. Garry is survived by his brother, Victor (Susan) Hawkins, his sister Lynne (Dave) Yule, nephews Darren (Holly), Wade (LeeAnn), Tyler (Annie), his niece Jessica (Andrew) Hawkins, and his cousin Fred Storozuk.
Garry was predeceased by his brother, David in 2011, his parents Albert Hawkins in 1997 and Eileen Hawkins in 2007, and his cousin Eileen Storozuk in 2021.
There will be a Celebration of Life for Garry at the Nanaimo Golf Club at a later date.
