Funeral services will be conducted for Lucy on Thursday, May 16, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Evangeline Funeral Home of New Iberia. Pastor Jeff Strassel of First Baptist Church in Lafayette will officiate. Interment will follow at Holy Family Mausoleum where Lucy will be laid to rest beside her husband.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at Evangeline Funeral Home on Thursday from 12:00 pm until the service time.
Lucy was a Godly woman who loved the Lord and her family. She set an example for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that will lead them all of their lives.
Lucy was born in Lafayette, LA on April 13, 1938 and was a lifelong resident of Iberia Parish. She accepted the Lord as her Savior 53 years ago. Lucy and Paul (her late husband) attended Temple Baptist Church for many years before starting Coteau Community Baptist Church in Coteau where Paul pastored for over 30 years.
Lucy taught the Children’s Sunday School and sang at church. She loved the Bible and going to church. Lucy retired from Kroger. She was always ready to care for the grandkids and loved to help out family members anyway she could. She was known as “Maw Lucy” and will be truly missed.
Lucy was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Bourque; son, Kenny Romero; mother, Elise Romero; father, Lloyd Romero; brother, Dennis Romero; and sister, Laura LeBlanc.
Lucy is survived by daughter, Kathy R. Borel (Jim); daughter-in-law, Joan Robichaux; sisters, Betty “Jean” Poirier and Brenda Darby; grandchildren, Ryan Borel (Summer), Holly Morgan (Ken), and Jeremy Romero (Marsha); great grandchildren, Kynley Morgan, Owen Morgan, Adaley Borel, Alivia Borel, Lanie Romero, Katie Leshare, Mateo Romero, Ashton Romero, and Kodi Romero; and great great grandchild, Coby Romero
Pallbearers will be Jim Borel, Ryan Borel, Jeremy Romero, Ken Morgan, Owen Morgan, and George Powell. Honorary pallbearer will be Menson Louis Romero.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Hospice of Acadiana and to all of Lucy’s caregivers that cared for her for many years.
