Raised in Gentilly, Betty attended St. Joseph's Academy and later in life graduated with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts from the University of New Orleans. As an artist she served NOMA as a docent and the People Program as an instructor. Forever involved with children, her own and those of others, Betty was adored and will be missed by many.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving spouse of 32 years, Charles Carroll Dufour; parents George Fossier and Myrtle Galy Fossier; son Gregg Dufour; sisters Marion Roche and Joan Schnadelbach; and brother George Fossier, Jr. She is survived by children David Dufour (Beth), Gwen Giacona (Tommy), Denise Dufour (Cary), and Margaret "Maggie" Gardner (Gary); grandchildren Todd Giacona (Marlin), Angela Giacona-Moore (Sean), Carolyn Giacona, Amanda Giacona, Brooke Giambrone (Perry), Drew Gardner, and Jackson Blancett (Lucy); and great-grandchildren Emily, Aiden, Cecelia, Jennings, and Blaire.
The family would like to give special thanks to the caring staff of Passage Hospice and Inspired Living Kenner.
A visitation for Betty will be held Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd, New Orleans, Louisiana 70124, followed by a funeral Mass at 1:00 PM, and interment thereafter at St Louis Cemetery No 3, 3421 Esplanade Ave, New Orleans, Louisiana 70119.
