He was born in Eram, OK on October 23, 1939 to James Willard and Vera Halbrooks. Leon had seven
siblings, Olan, Willie, Dale, Troy, and Geraldine, and he is survived by his two other sisters, Lois and Ethel.
He is also survived by his wife Annie Lee Pope. They were married June 25, 1966 for 57 years. She was
consistently at his side until his last breath. They had a lifetime of memories and a love to cherish
forever, especially their four children:
Richard Wayne Halbrooks of Harrah, OK.
Ronald David Halbrooks with wife Laleh of Highlands Ranch, CO.
Pamela Ann Moles of Tecumseh, OK.
Patricia Elaine Arvanitis with husband Peter of Norman, OK.
Leon graduated from Morris High School in 1957. He served 4 years in the Navy stationed at Midway
Island from 1960 to 1964.
In 1965, he began his professional career in the auto transportation industry, and it would span some 41
years until he retired from Jack Cooper Transport in 2006.
He always had a deep love for his family, especially his children. At a very young age, he enjoyed them
playing soccer and very rarely missed a game.
Leon also loved volunteering for the Choctaw Lions Club. You would see him at various functions giving
of his time.
He had many hobbies that he enjoyed such as hunting, fishing, car racing, Thunder basketball, Oklahoma
Sooners and most of all hockey! From the late 1960’s till the present, he always enjoyed a great game.
The last couple of years was challenging being in person due to his health, but he enjoyed watching his
son in law coach the Oklahoma Sooners on a video stream.
One of the greatest joys was being a “Pappa!” He loved telling everyone stories about his grandkids,
because he loved every one of them very much. They are as follows: Nick, Tristin, Blake, Maria, Alex,
Dimitri, Sophia, Nikko, and Reza. He also has one great granddaughter, Beckham.
We will miss him every day and we look forward to seeing him soon!
