Esmie Ruth Silvera was born in Jacks River, Saint Mary, Jamaica on March 21,1935 to Maybelle and Reginald Binda, she was the fourth of seven siblings, part of a large and loving family of Binda's
She graduated from Jacks River High School. Post graduation, she met the love of her life, Sonny(Piggy); it was his maturity, calm demeanor, and smile that captured her attention.
After a loving and committed relationship, God blessed them with twin girls, Sandria & Sonia. Three years later, they were blessed with their third child, Fitzgerald (Junior).
Esmie grew up in St Mary, where she was regarded as a beautiful young woman with a confident and congenial warm manner in dealing with others. That description remained true for her entire life’s journey. Her career started as a social worker with young ladies in the parish, teaching them life skills such as finance, nutrition and food preparation.
The family immigrated to the US and settled in Brooklyn, NY in the late 60s to begin their new life.
Esmie started her career in Brooklyn as a nanny for a family in Manhattan. She moved on to become a telephone operator at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn for 17 years until her retirement in 1998. After retirement Sonny and Esmie relocated to Palm Bay, Florida.
Esmie will be remembered for her many hobbies, interest and talents . One talent that most of us remember are her Black Cakes every Christmas and many of us had them as our wedding cakes. Esmie loved needlepointing, her works were visibly displayed throughout the home .
Her cooking skills surpass most. We could always count on a delicious meal for the holidays and throughout the year . There was always something good cooking in the kitchen.
She was proud of her travels throughout the world and would always talk fondly about her adventures . Based on her love for the Lord her most memorable trip was her travel to Israel .
She loved reading, sewing and crossword puzzles. Her sense of humor was infectious, people always gravitated towards her . She was a true believer in the Lord she left everything in the hands of the lord and we can attest he never failed her.
Esmie was pre deceased by her husband Sonny. She leaves to cherish her memories her 4 children, Sandria and her husband Michael Robinson, Sonia Goodin, Fitz and wife Hattie, Osmond and wife Gwen. 10 Grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, dear friends and her beloved neighbors.
A visitation for Esmie will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Fountainhead Memorial Funeral Home, 7359 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, FL 32909. A funeral service will occur Friday, May 31, 2024 at 1:00 PM, 7359 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, FL 32909. A graveside will occur Friday, May 31, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Fountainhead Memorial Park, 7303 Babcock Street SE, Palm Bay, FL 32909.
