Brittany Gray Burkhead was born on October 31, 1985, in Houston, Texas, to William Austin and Crystal (Crosby) Gray. She peacefully went to be with her Lord just before the sun rose on May 14, 2024, surrounded by her husband and family. The room was filled with the calming presence of the Holy Spirit and the assurance that she was now walking, fully healed, alongside her Savior.
“Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” (1 John 3:18)
Brittany faithfully loved others, with actions and in truth. She professed her faith in Christ at a young age and grew up the eldest of five children, where she was often referred to as a “second mom” by her younger siblings. Growing up in Birmingham, Alabama, Brittany was a part of numerous mission trips through her church, Green Valley, where she was active in the choir. She served her high school as the SGA vice president and her community as a Hoover Belle. She loved to sing. Brittany’s voice helped her win the title of Shelby County’s Junior Miss for the year 2004. Upon graduating from Hoover High School, Brittany attended Samford University, where she held the role of president of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority while earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
While at Samford, Brittany met the love of her life, Justin Burkhead. They were married in 2008, and she soon began a career of service as a nurse while raising her four beautiful children. She loved them fiercely, and chose to spend her time homeschooling, to ensure that they were raised in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. Brittany treasured each moment with them. She and Justin also invested into their church and community, helping to plant Living Hope Vollentine Evergreen Church in Memphis, Tennessee, where she was active in leading worship.
Brittany was a devoted friend and loyal sister. She cherished many God-given relationships that stood the test of time. Brittany had a deep desire for people to come to know the Lord through the testimony of her life, and she left a legacy that will point toward Christ for years to come.
Brittany is survived by her loving husband, Justin Warren Burkhead; her four children, Gray Adelyn, John Warren, Luke Crosby, and Beau Haynes; her parents, Bill and Crystal Gray; her siblings, Briana Remkus (Wesley-Eden, Evie, Elle), Austin Gray (Meghan-Murphy), Payton Gray (Madison), and Bailey Gray.
“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.” (Proverbs 31:31)
The celebration of Brittany’s life will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Green Valley Church, in Hoover, Alabama. The service will be officiated by her grandfather, Reverend Billy J. Crosby.
A private family burial will be held following the service.
In lieu of flowers, Brittany requested memorials to be made to Greater Birmingham Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a ministry dear to her heart. My.FCA.org/BillGray
