Patricia McDonald Rourk

On May 6, 2024 Patricia McDonald Rourk entered into eternal life. She was a loving and devoted wife to her late husband of 64 years, Lowell D Rourk. She is survived by her daughter, Rori Rourk (Sarah) and her son, Will Rourk (Alex). Her two children, Rori and Will, brought joy and love into her life as she nurtured and watched them grow into responsible, loving and caring people. She is also survived by her two grandsons, Tiernan and Aidan, whom she adored. They brought much love, laughter and delight into her heart. She was a loving an caring daughter to her late parents, Byrum and Susie McDonald. She had a very special relationship with her mother and looked after her in her later years. She valued her relationship with her late brother, O.B. McDonald, Jr and his family, as well as many other relatives in North and South Carolina and Florida. She began college at 37 with a husband and two young children. She graduated from VCU in 1974 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and taught elementary art in the Henrico School system for 23 years. During her years as an art teacher and into retirement, she continued her writing and had many articles published in Arts and Activities, a national Art Education Magazine. She continued teaching as a volunteer assisting gifted 4th and 5th grade students. She was asked to do a presentation at the National Education Conference, "The Creative Mind: Rainbows in Learning" sponsored by the P. Buckley Moss Foundation. the presentation was based on one of her published articles, "Visual and Verbal". An active member of St. Martin's Episcopal Church since 1965, she taught Sunday school, served as chairman of the Outreach Committee for 25 years and was a Vestry member several times. She used her art talents in many ways designing banners and backdrop scenes over the years. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Coal Pit Learning Center in Henrico for 6 years. This was a nonprofit school for underprivileged children. She also volunteered her service in Henrico County for 17 years at the Longan Elementary School voting precinct. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Martin's Church, 9000St. Martin's Lane, Richmond, VA 23294, or to the Coal Pit Learning Center, P.O.Box 800, Glen Allen, VA 23060 A visitation will take place on St. Martin's church on May 9 at 2pm to 3pm with a Funeral to follow. Interment will be private.
