Eugene Francis Hoover, 77, passed away on May 12, 2024 in Joplin, Missouri. He was born on November 6, 1946 in Lima, Ohio to the last Joseph and Arlene (Gullette) Hoover. Eugene was a Vietnam War Veteran and retired from the Army after 21 years of service. Even after he arrived home, he always made sure his troops were doing ok and checked up on them often. It was important to him that they were both physically and mentally strong after they returned from Vietnam. While there, he served with diligence and care. He always made sure the men’s feet were dry especially while in the jungle. That was not an easy task. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Silver Stars and 1 Bronze Service Star, as well as many other medals and commendations for his outstanding service. Eugene was a firm but fair man who instilled values in his children as well as those around him. He was kind and friendly, so he made friends easily and never met a stranger. He was a good provider and worked hard to do his best at everything. He loved spending time with his family and was very proud of his children and grandchildren. He liked to travel and fish in his spare time. He will be greatly missed.
Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Roger, Joe, and Bob. He is survived by his wife, Gloria whom he was married to for 33 years; daughters, Brenda Lochar (Jeremy), Joanna Somosky (Joseph), and Adrianne Patton (Kyler); sister, Phyllis Dye; his 4 precious grandbabies, Jordan Lochar, Benjamin Lochar, Killian Patton and Nova Patton; and many nieces and nephews.
