Julian David Gordon of Boston, MA passed away on May 12, 2024, at the age of 83. He was born June 19, 1940, and raised in Dorchester, MA. Julian was many things to so many people, and those of us who were fortunate enough to know him well knew a great man, husband, father, grandfather, friend, entrepreneur, and leader, filled with humility, kindness, and dedication.
After high school he married Doreen S. Rosen, his wife of 56 years. Julian attended Boston University where he completed an AS in Aeronautical Engineering. He began working as a Quality Control Engineer at WR Grace, where he established many of their manufacturing processes, then moved to Tapeler Corporation. As a lifelong learner and consultant, he began a long history of developing innovative products based on novel mechanical designs. These included an early version of a filtration system that removed toxins in blood for patients with kidney disease. In 1965, he received a patent for the first jet spray beverage dispenser — the kind found at many fast-food restaurants today. In 1970, he started Boston Grate, a grate and stairs manufacturing company that became one of the biggest employers in South Boston for over 25 years. Julian had a passion for running a business that helped others, and he worked tirelessly to make everyone successful. In 1994, he created Amramp, America's leader in U.S.-manufactured modular wheelchair and mobility scooter ramps for homes and businesses. He designed the signature wheelchair ramp product, and created and grew Amramp to over 52 franchise owners nationwide and in Canada. Over his lifetime, he donated his time, services, and products to thousands of people in need.
Julian also loved to learn about architecture and different cultures and traveled extensively around the world. He was predeceased by his parents Bessie and Myer Gordon of Malden Massachusetts, his wife Doreen (Rosen) Gordon of Marblehead. He leaves his son Jeffrey, daughter-in-law Michaela, son Jonathan, son Justin, daughter-in-law Jamie, along with cherished grandchildren Cameron, Mya, Jared, Celia, Lillian, and James (JD).
A visitation for Julian will be held Thursday, May 16, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, 10 Vinnin Street, Salem, MA 01970, followed by a chapel funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM.
