Carmen “Gamez” Badillo-Cantu, devoted Jehovah’s Witness, wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend, died Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at the age of 59. She was born to Ernesto Badillo Saavedra and Homogona Gamez De Badillo on September 13, 1964, in Culiacan Sinaloa Mexico.
She graduated from Escuela Federal 5 high school and shortly thereafter moved to California in the United States in 1988 in search of a better life for herself and her family. Upon arriving to the United States, Carmen worked at several jobs eventually settling at the Marriott Hotel Corporation, where she enjoyed a 25 plus year career. She lived in Palm Springs California, then moved to Pheonix Arizona, and then finally settling in San Antonio Texas as her last home. She met many very close colleges and friends while working at Marriott who were very special to her.
The bravery that she showed in moving away from her family and friends in her home town in Mexico was the way she lived her entire life. In sickness, she displayed courage and a positive behavior that was evident to all. She was forever positive and showed a zest for life to all the people that knew her despite her situation. She enjoyed traveling and working in her garden. Her true love was spending time with her family and people that she loved. She was gifted in connecting with people quickly and forming lasting relationships. She had a light and energy about her that will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include her husband, Michael J. Cantu, her five children, Salvador Coronel-Badillo, Isamar Coronel, Jose Alberto Coronel, Carmen Lyxandra Coronel, and Steven Christopher Coronel. She is also Survived by her mother, Homogona Gamez De Badillo, and five sisters, Beatrice Badillo-Gamez, Elizabeth Badillo-Gamez, Martha Badillo-Gamez, Ruth Badillo-Gamez, and Esmirelda Badillo-Gamez. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and one on the way. Carmen was preceded in death by her father Ernesto Badillo Saavedra.
A gathering of family & friends for Gamez will be held Monday, May 20, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, TX 78232. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, May 21, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Sunset North Funeral Home.
