Lounelle was born in Helen, Georgia on May 19, 1926, and reared in Hiawassee, Georgia. She was the youngest of two girls of Herschel Sutton and Edith Duvall Sutton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hillard H. Harvey and by a sister Latane Autry of Vienna Virginia. She is survived by her two children: John S. Harvey and his wife Saundra C. Harvey of Roswell, GA and Margaret H. Waldrep and her husband David F. Waldrep of Marietta, GA. Her three grandchildren are Matthew Ryan Harvey (Navada), Lisa Waldrep Stokes (Chris) and John David Waldrep. Lounelle also dearly loved her five great grandchildren: Jackson B. Harvey, Carter S. Stokes, Noah S. Stokes, James B. Waldrep and Benjamin F. Waldrep.
Lounelle earned a degree from Young Harris College in Home Economics. Soon after her graduation, she moved to Atlanta where she worked for the State School Superintendent at the Georgia Department of Education. It was while working in Atlanta that she met her future husband, Hillard H. Harvey. Lounelle and Hillard married and lived in eighteen locations while Hillard pursued his accounting career with Sears Roebuck and Company. Their longest assignment was in Atlanta, Georgia. Living in Atlanta allowed them to spend vacation time in her beloved home of Hiawassee, Georgia. She instilled a love of the mountains with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at their summer cottage on the lake in Hiawassee.
Lounelle was a gracious southern lady in her home. Nothing delighted her more than hosting parties and dinners for her family and friends. She knew how to set a “pretty table” and took great delight in it.
Funeral Service will be held at Sandy Springs Chapel, 136 Mt Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, Georgia at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 10, 2024 with Reverend Joe Evans officiating, interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
