Richard James Halloran, III, 83 years old, of Livingston, MT, by way of North Palm Beach, FL, died on May 15, 2024 in Sarasota, FL. He was born in Bloomington, IN in 1941, the oldest son of Richard James Halloran, II and Jane Yost Halloran.
Rick grew up in York, Pennsylvania. He attended Monmouth College from 1960 to 1964 where he studied literature and also met and married his wife of 60 years, Johanna (Jo) Blanche Howell. After graduation they moved to Wichita, Kansas for graduate school, then on to Kansas City, MO where he went to work for Aetna Insurance. From there Rick and Jo moved to Nashville, then Memphis, TN where they had their two sons Richard James Halloran IV and Patrick Myron Halloran, respectively. Rick and Jo made a big move in 1971 to North Palm Beach, FL.
Rick Halloran owned two Hallmark stores and a printing brokerage where his clients included the Golden Bear Company and several law firms. Rick dedicated himself to serving the community of North Palm Beach. He was a Little League baseball coach, a football coach, and a leader in the YMCA Indian Guides. Rick was also a long-time member and very active participant in the North Palm Beach Kiwanis Club.
Perhaps Rick is most well remembered by the North Palm Beach community for the fantastic St. Patrick’s Day parties he and Jo used to throw – a tradition spanning 25 years. To his closest of friends, the greatest gift they could have received from Rick was to be a recipient of the passing of the Great Blackthorn walking cane at each party – a truly authentic piece of memorabilia from Ireland. In 1999, after they were empty nesters, Rick and Jo moved to Livingston, MT where Rick was a part-time fly-fishing guide and an employee at Dan Bailey’s Fly Shop until 2018.
Rick is survived by his wife Johanna, their two sons, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Rick’s interests/hobbies were always fishing, reading, jazz music and socializing. Have a drink of Johnnie Walker in Rick’s memory!
