Born in Detroit, MI on May 10, 1930, she was the daughter of Christofo and Maria Ayala Arambula.
Kim moved to Manhattan in the late 40s and eventually found her way to Stamford, where she met the love of her life Rodney. Together they raised four children. Kim was very involved in her community and local politics. She was elected to the Board of Representatives 16th district where she never lost an election. She was a former board member at the Stamford Senior Center and the Department of Aging, and was the Director of the Spanish Senior Center at Our Lady of Montserrat Church. Kim was a real estate agent at various local agencies and was a Tour Leader at Collette Travel. She was a volunteer for many years at Stamford Hospital. Kim was a bilingual Justice of the Peace and was the local organizer for Reagan for President Campaign, which brought President Reagan to Stamford. Later, she was a delegate in the 1984 Presidential Campaign in Detroit. Kim was an avid Detroit Tigers and Lions fan, she enjoyed traveling, entertaining, playing cards, going to Broadway shows and the casino. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her four children; Maria Checkosky, and her husband Dave of Brookfield; Lisa Miller of Jacksonville, FL; Susan Unger, and her husband, Doug of Milford and Rodney C. Varney of Wallingford. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; Kristen, David (Jill), Bobby, Sarah (Matt), Heather, Rebecca (Jake), Alex, Samantha (Fabio), Scarlett (Val) and Mia. She leaves five great grandchildren, Noah, Alice, Lily, Juliana, Wyatt, and two more on the way. She also leaves her former son in law Mike Miller. Kim was predeceased by her two beloved grandchildren, Mark and Ashley, as well as her five brothers.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, May 19th, from 3-5 PM at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St., Stamford, CT. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 20th at 11:00 AM in Saint Leo Church, 24 Roxbury Rd., Stamford, CT. Burial to follow at Long Ridge Union Cemetery in Stamford, CT.
