Clyde Eugene Little, born on November 28, 1927, in Shreveport, Louisiana, peacefully passed away on May 4, 2024 in Houston, Texas. He was surrounded by the love of his family and the memories of a life well-lived.
Clyde was born to Edward Allen Little and Clyde Robinson Little, both of whom preceded him in death, as did his brother, Edward Allen Little, and niece LaJeanne Little. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and dedication.
Clyde's life was one of profound accomplishment and service. Upon graduation from High School, he enlisted with the U.S. Army and served with distinction in Los Alamos, NM on the Manhattan Project. As the war ended, he transferred into the U.S. Navy Reserve and continued his education at Texas Christian University with a degree in geology. His career with Gulf Oil Corporation (and later Chevron Corporation) included many significant contributions, from the discovery of Denmark’s first North Sea oil, to later pioneering work with 3D seismic interpretation techniques. He worked internationally in Denmark, Italy, and Indonesia, travelled extensively to numerous other countries, and finished his illustrious career in Houston. His contributions to these endeavors marked him as a man of intellect and commitment.
Beyond his military service, Clyde was deeply involved in the community of Meadows Place, where he forged long-lasting connections. He served as an alderman in the first city government following incorporation, and was instrumental in guiding the early development of the City’s services. He worked tirelessly, with great support from his wife Zella, to advocate and acquire grants for state funding of new trees and recreational facilities. In later years he served with the economic development council to attract and retain business participation within the City. He, with his wife Zella, was a long time member of the Meadows Garden Club, further demonstrating his passion for both the environment and community engagement.
Clyde was blessed with a 70-year marriage to his beloved wife, Zella Milford Little, whose love and companionship sustained him throughout his life. He is also survived by two sons, David Allen Little (Leslie Leonard), Mark Edward Little, David and Leslie’s two sons Matthew Austin Little, Benjamin Tyler Little (Sarah Garde), great-grandchild, Clyde Harrington Little, and niece Jane Page Crump.
Despite his many responsibilities, Clyde always found time for his family, especially his two grandsons, Matthew and Benjamin, whom he cherished dearly. He shared with them his love of travel and supported their athletic and educational endeavors, imparting upon them a sense of adventure and curiosity about the world as well as the value of hard work and persistence.
In his final days, Clyde was surrounded by the compassionate care of the nurses and staff at Eagle's Trace, as well as the support of The Care Team Hospice staff. Their kindness brought comfort to Clyde and his family during a difficult time.
Clyde Eugene Little will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great grandfather, and dedicated servant of his community and country. His legacy of service and love will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, his memory forever cherished in the hearts of those he touched.
A Memorial service has been scheduled for May 31, 2024 at 1pm at the Settegast-Kopf Co @ Sugar Creek with a reception to follow.
