Born in Sydney, she was the eldest daughter of the late John Gregory and Mary Margaret Macdonald.
She was predeceased by her sister Susan Elizabeth Martin in 2023.
Peggy is survived by her siblings, Catherine (Peter) Green of Blacketts Lake, Connie MacDonald, Sydney, Frances MacDonald, Dartmouth, Neil (Cathy) MacDonald, and Flora MacDonald, Sydney.
Peggy is also survived by her nephews Graham (Rebecca) and Jonathan Green, Alberta, Brian Maxwell Martin (Jocelyn), Greg and Jack MacDonald of Sydney, as well as her brother in law Brian Martin.
Peggy’s media career spanned fifty years, starting as a reporter with the Cape Breton Highlander newspaper in the 1970’s. She was a newspaper columnist, on air reporter, editor and investigative journalist. Of note, she wrote a weekly entertainment column in the Halifax Chronicle Herald called Night Side.
She worked for CHNS (Halifax), CJCB and CHER radio in Cape Breton, ending her career as news editor/executive producer at CBC Cape Breton.
Cremation has taken place and the family will receive friends at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, on Thursday, May 16 from 5 – 8 pm.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Theresa’s Church, Whitney Avenue, Sydney, on Friday, May 17 at 11:00am, Fr. Evo DiPierro officiating. A reception will be held in her honour at St. Theresa’s Parish Centre following. Interment with her parents to follow at a later date at Resurrection Cemetery.
