William “Bill” John Heimerle (91) died peacefully at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, NY on May 11, 2024. While his death creates a terrible void, his life is being celebrated by everyone who had the honor to know him. Bill was a cherished and admired father/father in law to his 4 children (William, Daniel, Christopher, James) and their wives (Mary, April, Kristie & Melissa). Bill was married for 61 loving years to his wife Patricia and is an adored Grandpa/Pop Pop to his 9 Grandchildren (Caitlyn (19), Isabelle (17), John (11), Michael (9), Patrick (9), Will (7), Conor(7), Mark(5) and Claire (5).
Bill was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 15, 1932 to Robert and Josephine Faupel and lived in South Ozone Park with the family he loved including his 3 siblings (Robert, Joan and Kathryn). He attended Our Lady of Grace in Howard Beach, John Adams High School and later graduated from Hofstra University. He retired after 32 years in finance at New York Telephone/Verizon as an industrial engineer. He moved to Long Island after marriage to Patricia and lived a wonderful life at their beloved home in Huntington, NY. Bill and Patricia were set to celebrate their 62nd wedding anniversary in October, 2024.
William was known for his kind, gentle and compassionate nature, his love for his family and his strong values. He had a generous spirit and volunteered many hours for St. Edwards the Confessor School on their various Boards and CYO programs. He was a spiritual man and valued member of the St. Edwards R.C. Church community. Bill served in the US Navy during the Korean War where he was an aerial photographer on the USS Valley Forge Naval Aircraft Carrier and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was an intensely proud American and supporter of our armed forces and will be buried at Calverton National Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held at Beney Funeral home in Syosset on Wednesday, May 15th from 2-6pm. A funeral mass will be held at St. Edward’s RC Church on Thursday, May 16th at 9:45am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Edward’s School, Calvary Hospital (Bronx) or St. Jude’s.
Bill’s legacy of love, compassion, integrity and service will continue to inspire all who knew him. May he rest in peace knowing he made a lasting impact on so many and will live in the hearts of those blessed to know him.
