Danny Calvin Farris, aged 69, passed away on May 14th, 2024 in Tyler, TX. He was born on April 29th, 1955 in Levelland, TX to Calvin and Jeanie Farris. Dan was raised in West Texas and attended school in Wellman, Brownfield, Midland and ultimately Seminole, where he graduated in 1973. Throughout high school, Dan was known around town for his kindness, basketball skills, and many practical jokes. When out on the town, Dan could be found on the CB radio by his handle “Alley Cat." One of Dan’s favorite memories growing up was visiting his grandparents in Winnsboro, TX to enjoy the scenery, fishing and outdoors. He enjoyed it so much that upon retirement, he relocated near the area. Shortly after high school, Dan was involved in a serious car accident that required a grueling nine months in the hospital to treat his extensive injuries. Through his incredible strength, support from friends, family and God, he recovered to lead a full and happy life. In 1978, Dan married his high school sweetheart and love of his life Rebecca Jane "Janey" Farris.
Following in his Father’s footsteps, Dan took a job with Amerada Hess Corporation. After starting in the Seminole office, he transferred to Eucutta, MS. While in Mississippi, Dan and Janey welcomed their two children April (1984) and Michael (1987). Dan quickly made an impact on Amerada Hess by being the first to adopt computer software to improve warehouse operations. Dan took classes on his own time at a community college to learn the skills needed to implement this new system. Dan quickly rose through the ranks, moving to Houston and then back to Seminole in 1998. He wanted to raise his children in a small-town atmosphere (and to avoid wearing a suit and tie everyday in humid Houston weather). Dan was an active member of the Seminole community. He helped to administrate and coach sports leagues and coordinate fundraisers. Dan was often referred to as “Dan the Man” due to his problem solving and leadership qualities. He made it a priority to teach and expose his children to as much as possible. Even if he knew nothing about the topic, he was humble and would find someone who did.
In 2006, Dan began working a rotational job as Logistics Manager in Algeria. This was a big experience for a small-town West Texas kid. Dan was proud of the contribution he made at this job while meeting and impacting people from all over the globe. Dan spent most of his free time in retirement finding ways to help his family and others. He was an active supporter of charities, with a focus on veterans and children with special needs. His favorite organization was Jake E’s Riding Round Up, an equine therapy facility for children in Kaufman, TX.
Dan is survived by three sisters (Vickie Aubry, Cindy Hanley, and Gina Sutter), two children (April Sorrel and Michael Farris), 5 Grandchildren and numerous adoring nieces and nephews. He was a proud and doting Papa, who was always looking for ways to make the grandkids smile. No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned. Dan's kindness and generosity will live on in the memories of the countless people he touched.
