James graduated from Spring Branch High School (Houston) in 1955. He then attended the University of Texas before transferring to University of Houston.
In November of 1956 he married Alice Shamblin, and to this union came two daughters, Amy Janyce and Laura Lynn.
After a 30 year career at Robishaw Engineering in Houston, he retired and went to work for Service Corporation International in Houston in their cemetery division. He loved helping families in their time of need. He continued that up until six months prior to his passing.
James is preceded in death by his parents, O.H. and Ruby Manville and his wife, Alice Shamblin Manville.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-laws, Amy Manville Stovall and Steve of Kansas City and Laura Manville Starnes and David of San Antonio. Grandchildren, Taylor Stovall Davis of Florence, SC, Matt Stovall (Betsy) of Phoenix, Sally Stovall Wallace of Florence, Tx., J.D. Stovall (Tara) of Bryan, Kiffer Stovall (Melissa) of Tyler, Matt Starnes (Emily) of Bulverde, Tx., Samantha Starnes McInnis (Matt) of San Antonio and Katie Starnes McDonnell (Ryan) of San Antonio, by 27 great-grandchildren and is also survived by a special friend, Gemma Crowder of Bullard.
The family will receive friends at Lloyd James Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, May 16th at 1:00 p.m. at Lloyd James Funeral Home with burial to follow at Larissa Cemetery near Mt. Selman with Rev. Chuck Ward officiating.
