Dona Elyse Hughes Sabin, 71, of Victoria, TX, passed away surrounded by family, friends and her beloved Dachshunds on May 11, 2024. Dona was born July 2, 1952 in Mount Pleasant, TX to the late Bettye Jo Ingram and John William Hughes.
She graduated high school in 1970 from Victoria High School where she played Flute in the school Concert and Marching Band and continued her flute playing skills her entire life. She earned her Accountant degree from the University of Houston and her CPA while living in Houston and working for Morris-Aubry Architectural firm. She later worked for Kamin’s Furniture Store in Victoria, Tx with both Buddy and Bentley Kamin. She became quite close with the Kamin family.
She was active in her church community at Grace Presbyterian Church including sharing her talent as a Flautist on multiple occasions.
Known for her love of family, Dona always enjoyed a visit from siblings and relatives, and regularly hosted family reunions. She will be remembered dearly by family and the many friends she has met, lives she has enriched, and children whom she raised.
She used to joke that she had a green hand, not a green thumb. Her gardens are proof of this statement.

She is survived by her sons Josh Sabin (Margo) of Austin, Brian Sabin (Jennifer) of Richmond, Jacob Sabin (Chelsea) of Idaho, Andrew Sabin of Victoria; sister, Sue Ellen Hughes Herbold of Victoria; brother, Jay W. Hughes (Melanie) of Yoakum and her 5 grandchildren, Tristan, Ryley, Claire, Cate and Andrew Jr.; as well as, multiple nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years Gary Sabin, her parents and her brother-in-law Freddie Frank Herbold.
A Celebration of Life will be held June 1, 2024 at 2 PM at Grace Presbyterian Church, 3604 N. Ben Jordan St., Victoria, Texas.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of South Texas.
