Randy Dean Simmans, 78, of Victoria, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024, in Victoria. He was born in Rotan, Texas on August 26, 1945, to R.W. and Pauline Davis Simmans, Jr. He graduated from Azle High School in 1963 and continued his education at Texas Tech University, where he earned his bachelors in 1967 and his masters in 1968.
He then embarked in a decades long career in education. He served as a vocational agriculture teacher in Clarendon and Lamesa, a vocational director and elementary principal, also in Lamesa, and as principal of Cisco High School until his retirement.
Randy married the love of his life, Cheryle Hensley Simmans, on July 25, 1972, in Fritch, Texas. Randy and Cheryle, who was also an educator, devoted their lives to all aspects of education from the classroom to extracurricular activities.
Randy was a life-long woodcrafter, often making special gifts for family and friends. In retirement, he learned how to make custom knives. He was renowned among friends, family, and occasional passersby for his steak preparation, grilling, and smoking prowess. He was also an avid RV’er and, he and Cheryle travelled all over the United States.
Randy is survived by his loving wife; Cheryle Simmans, two sons; Randy Simmans, Jr. and his wife Mary, and Robert “Bob” Simmans and his wife Jennifer, grandsons; Christopher Simmans and wife Leann, and Zachary Simmans, and great-grandchildren: James, Daniel, and Evelynn. Randy also leaves behind numerous extended family and friends, all of whom will cherish his memory.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Sandra Simmans.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 from 9-10 am, followed by Funeral Service at 10 am, all at Colonial Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
