She grew up in Fort Lupton, Colorado on farmland, working in the fields and helping to take care of her siblings. She met Larry Martel and was married in 1953, moved to Denver, and had their son, Larry Jr. They then had their daughter, Lorrie, and moved to Lakewood, CO shortly after.
Soffie worked as a waitress in her earlier years, as well as at Wright & McGill, tying flies for fly fishing. She then went onto the Jefferson County school systems and worked in the cafeterias for the better part of two decades.
She is survived by her children Larry Martel, Jr. (Carmen) and Lorrie Dowell; her grandchildren Tonja (Jesse) Alvarado, Jason (Stacy) Martel, Adam (Felicitas) Martel, and Emma (Taras) Dowell; her great-grandchildren, Mercedes (Van) Snook, Jesse Alvarado, Jr., Ina Alvarado, Justin Alvarado, Glori Martel, C.J. D’Innocenzo, Kanin Martel, and Athena Martel; her siblings, Mary Ellen Olmedo and Isabel Sanchez; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, John and Ruth Olmedo; her husband, Larry E. Martel; and her siblings, Manuel, Jesse, Effie, Lupe, Lucy, Geneva, Lloyd, Irene, Victoria, and Sunny; and many aunts and uncles.
