Vince’s journey began on November 14, 1945, in Nipawin, SK. His family later moved to the small farming community of Rose Prairie, BC, where Vince’s work ethic was born. Even as a little boy, he worked hard on the family farm, determinedly driving the old tractor when his feet could barely reach the clutch.
In 1971, while living in Charlie Lake, BC, Vince’s life changed forever when he walked into a bowling alley and met Carol. They fell deeply in love and were married on May 20, 1972. Vince had a large heart, and he instantly embraced Carol and her three little ones as his very own. Within two years, two more little girls completed their lively household. Raising their five children in Fort St. John, BC, Vince always ensured his family was safe, provided for, and knew they were loved.
The years flew by in a blur of activities, family camping trips up the Alaska Highway and throughout the Okanagan. In 1990, Vince welcomed the first of his 14 grandchildren. From that moment on, every single one of them grew up knowing they were loved beyond measure by their Papa.
In 1991, Vince and Carol relocated to Kelowna, creating a warm and welcoming home where they gathered with family and friends. Vince was a man who appreciated the beauty of creation. He enjoyed working in his garden and with his flowers in the backyard. This was the spot for many family BBQs and celebrations he loved so much.
Vince and Carol lived life hand-in-hand, sharing beautiful adventures from an Alaskan cruise with friends, to travels across the East Coast, Mexico, Florida, and to winter days at Big White with the grandkids.
Vince was a quiet man, he was known for his warm sense of humor, he loved a good laugh with family and friends. He enjoyed music, often dancing with Carol or playing beautiful melodies on the piano and accordion entirely by ear. Vince was strong despite his many health problems. He was happy to help his kids renovate their homes, build decks, or expand his own yard and garden.
In the early years of fatherhood, Vince began searching for answers to life’s biggest questions. His search led him to study the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses. He found a beautiful truth that he knew he wanted for his family, leading to his baptism in 1978. Vince was a man of strong faith. He always enjoyed the time he spent sharing the comforting truths of the Bible with others.
In the 1980s, Vince was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, starting a long and painful battle that lasted the rest of his life. Yet, to know Vince was to know a man who refused to complain. Even on his hardest days, he greeted the world with a genuine smile and a warm hello. His faith gave him optimism. He endured his illness by looking forward to the Bible’s promise of a beautiful paradise earth in the near future, where he would finally be restored to the strong, healthy man he was always meant to be.
Vince was an anchor and rock for his entire family. He walked quietly and left a big footprint.
