Mary A. Mackey

Mary Agnes Mackey (AKA: Lovey) 80, of South Dennis, formerly of Cambridge and Belmont, MA, died Saturday, July 12, 2014, at Epoch of Harwich with her daughter, Erinn Marie, by her side. She grew up in Cambridge, where she lived for over 30 years. Mary graduated high school in 1951, from Mount St. Joseph’s Academy in Brighton and went on to graduate from Salem State Teacher's College in 1955. She later received her master’s degree as well. She often joked that she,"spent 40 years in the second grade,"at The Harrington School in Cambridge, MA, where she taught close to 1000 students. She raised her daughter in Belmont, MA, but when school was out, Mary treasured her weekends and summers with friends and family on Cape Cod, where she was a well-known staple and 'hostess with the mostest,' working along side Cape Cod legend, Rock King at the Sand Bar in West Dennis. Remembered for her quick wit, funny quips and genuine kindness, she held the position of hostess and greeter from 1959 on! The two also took the show on the road to Sister Kate's, a popular nightclub in Stowe, Vermont for many years. She was a mover and a shaker, who enjoyed the beach, collecting frogs, frequenting Disneyworld and making a good time where ever she went. Her greatest passion was the joy she got from being with “her” children, especially her daughter Erinn and son in-law Joe McNulty; her treasured granddaughter Mary Christine Mackey; along with her two adoring grandsons, Maxwell and Jack Hanscom, all of South Dennis. She is also survived by her brother and sister in law, John & Julianne Mackey of St. Johnsbury, VT, as well as two nephews, their wives and 2 beautiful grand nieces.. Visitation will be Wed., July 16th, 5-8 p.m. at the Doane, Beal, & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Rte. 134 So. Dennis. The Funeral Mass will be held Thurs., July 17th, 10 a.m. at St. Pius X Church, 94 Station Ave., S. Yarmouth and internment at Oak Ridge Cemetery in South Dennis. There will be a reception to celebrate her life following the services.
