A memorial service is planned for Fred Wheeler at McKendree Chapel in Hermitage, TN on Sunday, 9/28/2014 at 3pm with family visitation between 2-3pm.
Mr. Wheeler is preceded in death by parents Clarence & Frieda Wheeler and sister Beverly (Arthur) Rocker. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pauline Roy Wheeler; children Mark Wheeler of Seattle, WA, Kirk Wheeler of Belmont, CA, Karen Wheeler of Wilmington, NC, & Eric (Lisa) Wheeler of Mt. Juliet, TN; grandchildren Chris, Sarah, Terry, Madeline, Brenna & Eli Wheeler.
Fred & Pauline have lived at McKendree Retirement Village in Hermitage, TN since 2000 where he served for a time as President of the Tower Resident’s Council.
After managing Stanley-Bridges London, England, the family moved to New Bern, NC in 1969. Living there for more than 3 decades, Fred was employed as president and general manager of Stanley Power Tools and oversaw the transition to Bosch Power Tools.
Mr. Wheeler served as elder at First Presbyterian Church of New Bern; president of the Craven Co. Chamber of Commerce, New Bern City School Board member, president of New Bern Rotary, and chairman of Craven County Community College Foundation.
Education includes a B.S. magna cum laude in 1943 from Syracuse University and MBA in 1947 from Harvard Business School.
He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army Air Corps after serving during World War II on Tinian Island.
Fred was born in South Amboy, New Jersey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Golden Cross Fund at McKendree Village, 4343 Lebanon Road, Hermitage, TN 37076.
