Cheyenne Laura Coffee-Sosa, the daughter of Danuta and John Naber, was born on March 1, 1972 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She grew up in Houston, Texas. After Cheyenne’s high school graduation, she demonstrated her concern for others by spending her summer in rural Mexico teaching oral hygiene to the locals and helping to build latrines. While majoring in History at Schreiner College in Kerrville, she spent a year as an exchange student in Japan. Upon graduation, Cheyenne returned to Japan where she taught English in a Japanese Secondary School. She enrolled in UT on her return to the United States where she earned her Master’s Degree and ultimately was licensed as a Social Worker in the State of Texas.
Cheyenne is preceded in death by her mother, Danuta Naber, her late husband, Christopher Coffee of Pflugerville and her father-in-law Milton “Berry” Sosa, Jr.
Cheyenne is survived by her loving husband Mike of Austin, Texas, as well as her father, John Naber of Houston, siblings Michael Naber (wife Hope) of McKinney, Catherine Naber of Hempstead, Robert Naber (wife Jennifer) of Honey Grove, mother-in-law Jewel Watts of Temple, as well as sisters-in-law Trish Goodman (husband Frank) of Temple, Shirley Martin of Corpus Christi, Linda Moore (husband Don) of Temple, and Janet Haynes (husband Kris) of Temple.
Cheyenne felt blessed by her step-children Alex and Charlotte Coffee, she loved and raised them as her own. They called her “Mama Chey”. She was a super aunt to her nieces Christa and Kayleigh, as well as nephews Andrew (AJ) and Zachary Naber.
Cheyenne and Mike met in the fall of 2017 and fell in love. They were married on April 30, 2022, by Lake Buchanan in Texas, happily encircled by family and friends. Cheyenne loved all animals, she was a cat whisperer, and a hound howler, and a few years ago she and Mike adopted a giant white puppy. Scout looked handsome on the wedding day in a royal purple bowtie; and he and Cheyenne hung out every day and went on lots of walks. Mike and Cheyenne also raised chickens and grew vegetables to eat and cook from their own gardens, especially this season's asparagus crop. They enjoyed camping at the coast, hiking, and canoeing on various lakes together.
Cheyenne loved making music of all kinds with friends. Anything from a small percussion part to lead vocals and guitar, it all meant so much to her. She was a magnet for amazing people with different musical talents, and could always find a perfect accompaniment with her voice, fiddle, or guitar. She made new friends at local Open Mic nights and brought everyone together right in her and Mike's own backyard celebrating with joy and laughter surrounded by their forged family.
Cheyenne inspired others to express themselves. She greeted moments with exuberance and no filters. She brightened up a room and communed with butterflies. In her darker moments, she held on tightly. We, her husband, her family, her friends, her satellite of stardust will miss Cheyenne always.
