He was born and raised in Bloomington, IL where he worked as a Deputy Sheriff for McLean County before joining District 87 in the Maintenance Department. John served his country in the National Guard for 6 years. He had his own drywall business during most of his adult life as well. He retired in 1994 and moved to Florida, a lifelong dream, where he resided for 12 years before moving to Arizona in 2006.
He is preceded in death by his first wife of 30 years, Sally Spahn Ledbetter and daughter, Stacy. Survived by his son, Mark and three grandchildren, Dr. Mark P., Meagan and Mitchell Ledbetter.
John's 1966 Chevy Caprice was his pride and joy and he spent many happy hours cruising and attending car shows. His favorite song, fittingly, is American Pie by Don McLean where he sings loudly "drove my Chevy to the levy, but the levy was dry".
His final wish was to have his ashes dispersed off the coast of California where he will await his wife of 32 years, Susan, when she passes. Safe journey, dear one.
