Born on March 23, 1935, Barbara grew up in the hills of Asheville, North Carolina, as a vibrant, vivacious, beautiful girl who played basketball for West Buncomb High School, helped out at her grandmother’s pie shop in town, and worked for a high end fashion designer after school and on weekends. She met the love of her life, Joseph O. Morgan Sr, who just two years her senior, drove the bus she took to school. They fell in love and stayed that way, delighting in the happiness of welcoming three children into their home, eventually moving to the Space Coast for Joe’s work as a Fireman at The Kennedy Space Center. In addition to raising her family, Barbara worked various jobs with skill and commended herself wherever she went, from her time working at The First National Bank of Merritt Island to managing the books at The First Baptist Church of Merritt Island. She had a knack for finding the very best in a situation or circumstance, and helping others to do the same. Liberal with her use of butter and gravy in her cooking, gracious with her words, hilarious with her wit and spunk, a captivating story-teller, and generous with friends, family, and neighbors alike, she was a pillar of her community in Merritt Island.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Panzie Parris, her sisters Betty Gaddy and Mary Freeman, as well as by her beloved highschool sweetheart and husband of 49 years, Joseph O. Morgan, Sr. She is survived by her three children, three grandchildren, five great-grand children, and her sister, Nancy Hawkins. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 3, at 10AM at Brevard Memorial Funeral Home and Park.
