Inocencia Rodriguez Gaitan, age 86, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024. She was born in La Feria, Texas on December 28, 1937, to Mauricio and Maria Silva Rodriguez.
Inocencia worked many jobs throughout her life. She worked for Levi Strauss Jeans for 15 years. She then went on to work at Corpus Christi Spohn Hospital for around 20 years. Her most recent work experience was as at Circle K. Throughout her life, Inocencia’s all-time favorite job was being a mother to her five beloved children.
Inocencia went on to marry Robert Alanis. Though they separated early on, Robert and Inocencia remained close friends. Together, they built and maintained a loving family of seven, including their five children, George, Rick, Maurice, Elizabeth, and Becky. After Robert’s eventual passing in 2004, Inocencia continued to be an anchor for her family and provided the comfort and support that her children needed.
Inocencia found love and happiness with Isaac Gaitan. Together, they were united in holy matrimony on March 2, 2002. Isaac brought a new breath of life to Inocencia. He would take her to dances, where she loved to dance and be spun around. She would always dress up to the occasion with her hair and makeup done and often wore red, which was her favorite color.
Inocencia is described by her family as the life of the party. She was quick to laugh and to make others laugh. She always had a comforting and loving smile on her face, one that will be missed by many. She loved taking photos with funny filters with her family and creating memories that will live on through her future generations. On her weekends, she could often be found at the flea market, cruising around town with her husband Isaac, or walking through the mall – outstepping anyone who accompanied her and affectionately being nicknamed, “Energizer Bunny.”
Inocencia was also a talented cook and her family fondly reminisces on her famous meals, especially her capirotada and delicious homemade tortillas. She was a loving wife and mother, always making sure there was a freshly cooked meal on the table. She would wake up every morning at 4 AM to begin making breakfast for her family.
Inocencia was a fun loving person, not only to her family, but also to her pet parrots who she adored. Through her love of parrots, she especially adored the cartoon character Tweety Bird. She collected socks, t-shirts, and figurines of Tweety Bird, but she was also a collector of angel figurines and teddy bears. When she was out and about, Inocencia had to pick up any angel figurines she saw, adding them to her collection at home. Toward the end of her life, one of Inocencia’s newest fixations were fidget toys. She loved playing with them and sharing them with her family.
In her spare time, Inocencia could be found outside tending to her garden of beautiful plants and flowers. She would sit outside with a crossword puzzle and enjoy the scenery of the day around her.
Above all else, Inocencia loved her family and cherished every waking moment with them. Easter was one of her favorite holidays, which was often spent down by the river. Some of her fondest memories include the Mariachi’s that her family would hire to play for her every Mother’s Day.
Inocencia will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Inocencia is reunited with her parents, Mauricio and Maria Silva Rodriguez; her first husband, Robert Alanis; daughter, Elizabeth Alanis; and son, George Alaniz. She is survived by her beloved spouse, Isaac Gaitan; her children, Rick Alanis, Maurice Alanis, and Becky Alanis; 13 grandchildren; her brother, Felipe Rodrigues; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
