Loan Elayda, lovingly known as Lucie, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2024, at the age of 89. She was born on November 15, 1934, in Hanoi, Vietnam and lived a remarkable life that spanned continents and decades.
Lucie’s early years were spent in her homeland of Vietnam, where she forged the resilient spirit and unwavering determination that would define her character. It was there that she met the love of her life, Julio Elayda. In 1973, she embarked on a new chapter, relocating to the Philippines, where they built a life filled with love, laughter, and the cherished traditions of their blended heritage. In 1980, Lucie made the courageous decision to settle in the United States alongside her husband and children embracing new opportunities and ensuring a bright future for her family.
Throughout her life, Lucie was the embodiment of strength, resilience, and an unwavering work ethic. Our mother was a beacon of caring and kindness who always put her family’s needs above her own. Lucie was a strong woman who faced every challenge in life with courage and dignity and was the source of inspiration to us all. Our mother was very hard-working. Her opinionated nature strong-will, and compassionate nature left an enduring mark on the hearts of those she loved.
A devoted wife, a loving mother, a doting grandmother, and a proud great-grandmother, Lucie's presence enriched the lives of countless individuals. Her legacy of love and generosity will be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to have known her.
Lucie's memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends, a testament to a life well-lived and a love that knew no bounds.
Lucie is survived by her daughters Jeanine and Juanita, her son Julio Jr., her son-in-law Renato, and her daughters-in-law Eden and Yolanda. She is also survived by her granddaughters Shyla (Missba), Lovely (Guilbert), Amanda (Kevin), Zoe, and Joyelle, as well as her great-grandchildren Sarinnah and Joey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Julio, and her son, Jon.
Services to honor Lucie's life will be held at Garden Oaks Funeral Home, 13430 Bellaire Blvd., Houston, Texas. There will be visitations on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, and Wednesday, May 8, 2024, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. each day, with Buddhist prayers at 4:00 P.M. on Tuesday and a Rosary at 6:00 P.M. on Wednesday.
An additional visitation is scheduled for Thursday, May 9, 2024, starting at 9:00 A.M., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of Garden Oaks Funeral Home. Following the funeral service the interment will take place at 1:00 P.M. Woodlawn Cemetery, 1101 Antoine Dr., Houston, TX
